Leaving Las BigSmoke

Yes, in a few days I load up the car and head back to Montreal. I have begun to plan the packing, grabbed the extra boxes I may need and sorted myself out on what needs to be cleaned before leaving.

Toronto, aka “Big Smoke”, has been good to me.

Next up: a séjours at the cottage followed by prepping and selling my nice Loft.

Daylight Savings

Deep down, I still grumble at the US Congress for mucking with the start date for “Daylight Savings Time”, but this morning was a genuine pleasure to wake up to sunshine.

What can I say, somehow he got my brain to think, and then buy, Magic the Gathering cards. He is my pusher.

Perfect as Cats

I’ve been riding the bike to work, but this morning, sleepy, very sleepy, I took the subway. I had my iPod, with my eclectic mix of songs spanning many genres, and a recent acquisition on it: “perfect as cats : a tribute to the cure”

I was partially asleep the entire time, listening to the songs, one ear picking up my transfer stations’ name.  Then shuffle to another platform, get in and repeat the “snooze mode”.

Upon arrival to my destination, I amble out, head into mall food territory and line up for muffin/coffee combo.  The iPod still playing my oft-heard album songs; I live in “Shuffle” mode.

With my 2nd breaky in hand, I head for the escalator and step into the light and fresh air.  A song shuffles in, one that has yet to loose it’s “almost new” status:  ”Love Cats by Katrine Ottosen”  Nice… I’m waking up with a smirk … a bounce in my step … mumbling in my brain the lyrics, miss-pronouncing the “love cats” as “lolcats” and smirking even more.

Enjoy the song via YouTube.

I’m now curious for a listen to “Hollywood, Mon Amour”, an import CD from France, contains “Eye of the Tiger” by Katrine.

The Cat Came Back

About a month ago, on the way back from the family cottage, my father had to stop due to the alarming sounds both cats were making in their cages. Journey barely begun, he stopped within short distance of a the nearby town, in a sand pit off the road. Just his sense of smell told him that most likely both cats had “gone and done it” in their cages. (Bleh, just thinking about the smell turns my stomach.)

So lady cat (aka Mittens, aka “Pink Nose”, aka “Pratz-lee”) was taken care of first. Clean the cage, clean the cat, place cat back into cage. This is usually a two person, 4-hand operation. Dad, besides being slightly overwhelmed by the stench, was also a bit sleep deprived due to said cats. Both are adopted indoor-outdoor animals, with nasty nocturnal streaks. And dad spoils them with “attention to their needs”, therefore he was zoned.

Young mister cat (aka Rusty, aka “Krum-pus”) was jittery. As he had almost filled the cage’s bottom with pee, he was a bit anxious to be out. He also has a silly tendency to hate, and I mean HATE , his own by-products, often running away immediately from the stench and coming back later to cover the mess. Unfortunately, he was in the “this stinks, let me away from here” mood. Two person, no problem, one sleepy dad, not enough. He bolted. (see Disney movie on how poor a choice this is).

Dad in his stunned and tired state, stricken pretty much immediately with grief at this turn of events, continued on home with plans to return same day to search for Rusty. Not the best plan by a long-shot, especially since he didn’t even call me to perhaps “review the options.”

Needless to say, one has to have some faith in events to think such a silly, adopted, semi-feral (but recently “scardy” ) cat would be found again. I’m sure there is plenty of adventure that happened over the last month … but Rusty is back home today.

Rusty, positivly IDed from posters dad spread about, turned up at the house of some very friendly folks, not far from where the silly cat went “walk-about”. Although there was an earlier attempt to catch him in a cage, only the much larger “humane trap” that dad bought just before the weekend helped. The little bugger shed much of his “Sumo Cat” weight, demands food incessantly, but seems ecstatic to be home.

Roll the Disney end-credits. The Cat Came Back.

Sorry, I don’t have pictures of the little bugger with me, but I’m not surprised that Wikipedia’s “Cat” is family relation of Rusty, with the namesake stomach color patch.

Not Rusty, but a relative

The most disgusting ritual of the day

… is locking my bike up in the morning at the office.  Slightly winded, heart racing, lungs pulling in more air then normal.

Bike rack sorounded by the cigarette crowd.

Yuck. /cough  Yuck.

Hot … and not sleeping

The city is bloody hot, and only tomorrow will it release this heat into a large thunderstorm. Or so they say.

I’m guessing I won’t be riding my bicycle then … but real problem right now is: How will I fall asleep ?  Frak!

So, being up late and on the ‘Net, I end-up scouring NCIX.com’s weekly special.

Unlucky me, I found something that caught my eye.  A Sanyo Xacti CA9 … and then went ahead and ordered one ^.^

Maybe I should have been reading instead   ;D

Feeling better

And biked in to celebrate.  That said, when I woke up, biking to work was the last thing on my mind, but after showering, it was “let’s go!”

Took the ride in very easy, watched the other cyclists to catch some ideas, some shortcuts and such.  It worked out well, I now have some great new paths.

Glorious Sleep!

Sometimes struggling against sleepiness is counter productive.  Yesterday sometime after 19:00 I simply decided to lie down and give myself a break, perhaps re-awakening later in the evening.

Later turned out to be 10:00 this morning.  O glorious sleep!  I’m not even hungry…
