Rough Week
4 days in a row I slept through the alarm. Bleary eyed and sleepy sum up this week. Being a “Human Barometer” is hard.
Saeco is now Philips
Philips bought the espresso machine maker Saeco.
Philips said the deal was reliant on an agreement with Saeco’s banks over Saeco’s outstanding debt.
Times Square is closed to car traffic…

In hopes of reducing pollution, increase safety and improve traffic flow, the city has closed Broadway between 42nd and 47th streets to vehicles, as well as another section of Broadway between 33rd and 35th streets at Herald Square.
Wow.
London Accident on CCTV
Posted by barista in Bike, Interweeb! on 05/26/2009
What you are seeing is a closed-circuit TV recording of an accident that could have turned fatal in London. Allegedly among the cyclists is the Mayor, Boris Johnson, and the British transport minister, both riding to scope out new bike lanes.
Scary.
Bike Injury #1
Might as well celebrate the first one with a posting.
First Toronto bike injury happened this morning. Car, rather indecisive, lack of space and the Streetcar tracks in a corner… Front tyre bites into the track, rail redirects motion, rear right panier sends out tail with the small ballance differential. Left foot down to ride it out … left pedal continues motion and “bites” left leg just under the knee. Ouch.
Looks worse then it feels. Polysporin & band-aids to the rescue.
Bike Month in Toronto
Started the week nicely: biked from Bloor-High Park to City Hall with a throng of bikers, got a nice free T-shirt and was fed with “a single” pancake & maple syrup.
Heard the mayor speak for the first time as well; he is a good public speaker. I’m told, besides biking, he plays rugby and cricket. Good show. Pip pip. Cheerio and all that.
The Weekend Report – May 16-18

May 24 Edition!
Unless you are from English speaking Canada, that exclamation makes no sense. The local slang for Victoria Day is actually double-entendre, a “Two-Four” referring to a 24 case beer and the fact that in 1834, parliament of the Province of Canada to officially recognize 24 May as the Queen’s birthday.
Naturally, this weekend shed it’s Royalist naming in Quebec, morphing into “National Patriots’ Day” from Fête de Dollard, as in Adam Dollard des Ormeaux.
Long weekend spent in T.O. :
Resting, recuperating, putting frakin’ servers into Production. Played some WoWcrack, enjoyed some silly and mindless fun. Went to see Trek again, in IMAX this time. Slept.
Then on holiday Monday, I pushed my bike’s pedals for 4 1/2 hours. This morning, my legs were like steel girders. Oh well, it doesn’t start easy.
The plan is to bike to work tomorrow…
Eurotrash

Nothing more kitsch, scary or simply over the top as the EuroVision song contest. And the above video goes with this quote:
Graced with the voice of a song-thrush, the shoulders of a stevedore and the lung power of an industrial dehumidifier …
This is a review Malena Ernman – La Voix (Sweden) and the rest of EuroTrash 2009.
